Welcome to Gippsland Lean Beef
visitors since June 1st
Hi this is Dan and Alex and we have decided that we don't want to be price takers for our Beef anymore (the supermarkets and feedlots set the price and we take it.....irrespective of whether we make a profit or not).
The only way for small cattle farms to remain sustainable at a time of high costs and depressed prices is for farmers to sell their premium produce direct to the consumer. This is before the cattle enter a feedlot where high protein feeding, rumen manipulators, hormones and chemicals are used extensively
Gippsland Lean Beef steers are raised on our free range farms on the fertile river flats of the beautiful Jack Rack River in South Gippsland Victoria.
They graze freely on the best pastures available. We have 250 acres between two farms of our own and if demand exceeds supply we are able to source additional animals from accredited neighbouring farms.
Our beef is the tastiest... and is raised naturally on free-range pasture
Succulently tender, naturally-raised Angus and Hereford beef isnt something that you're likely to find in your local supermarket. If you want to know that your meat is free of hormones and antibiotics and raised with care and kindness then the best way to buy it direct from a family owned and operated farm.
We care as much as you do about producing the most healthy and natural beef possible, and you can be assured that the meat you're buying from our farm is of outstanding quality. You can be 100% confident that your meat is highly nutritious and free of growth promotants, antibiotics and genetically modified (G.M.) feed.
Customer feedback:

And when you discover that its the most mouth-wateringly delicious beef you've ever eaten...
...youll never buy your beef from the supermarket again!
Direct from our farm to your freezer.....
Buying meat directly from the farm means you know exactly where your food comes from, and how it's treated on the way from our paddock to your plate.
With ever increasing concerns regarding Hormones, Antibiotics, Chemicals and Genetic Modification, sourcing produce direct from the farm from trusted producers is becoming a growing trend. If you know your farmer, you can trust the way your food is raised and prepared.
Plus, buying locally-grown food is a great way to help the environment. The less distance it has to cover to get to you, the less fuel gets burned, and the less carbon dioxide goes into our atmosphere.
Were always delighted to get to know our customers, and we'll be happy to show you around our farms at any time. Please contact us to make arrangements so that your family can visit us. We want you to see how much we care about our land and our animals, so you can trust the quality of the beef you're eating!
So just how naturally do we raise our animals?
100% fed on plants
Cattle are herbivores. Their natural diet consists of grasses and clovers, and we've found that raising them on this diet produces the very best beef.
And yet, most feed-lot operations use growth hormones, antibiotics, and high-protein feeds (pellets and other grain based feed) and raise their cattle in confined pens to get the fastest growth rates and the biggest profits. Did you know that cattle can grow as fast a 2kg - 3 kg per day in a feed-lot? With this grain based feed regime, this type of beef has higher levels of saturated fats (The Bad Fats).
We only feed our cattle natural plants produced on our farms. From Spring untill late Summer our cattle, graze on 250 acres of premium pasture, eating a lush mix of grasses, clovers and forage oats. From Autumn to early Spring, we add to their diet with our own fresh-cut hay and silage produced on our farms.
We believe that giving our animals the very best living conditions for their health and well-being, gives you the best beef you can find anywhere...
Raised on Free-range pasture..... Spring to Autumn
This rich mix of grasses gives our cattle an excellent spectrum of nutrients which makes your beef high in Beta Carotene and high in Omega 3 Fats. (The Good Fats).
Our pastures are free from any herbicides, fungicides or insecticides, so there is no possibility of any residues of these substances appearing in your meat. Just high-quality, great tasting beef, like our parents and grandparents used to eat.
We also don't constrain our cattle to small pens they're free to roam the paddocks at their leisure.
It's hard to improve on Nature, so we try to work with it to get the best results. We think you'll find that the way we treat our cattle translates into the best beef youve ever eaten.
And it's incredibly healthy too...
Raised naturally for glowing health
We raise our cattle as naturally as we possibly can.
You have our personal guarantee that the beef you're eating from our farm is free of hormones and antibiotics. And we stand behind that guarantee we can trace every one of our animals from conception to the dinner plate.
Finished on silage for sweetness
Another secret to the amazing flavour of our natural Angus and Hereford beef is the way we finish our cattle.
We give them silage and extra hay for as required to improve flavour and sweeten their meat. Silage is a highly nutritious feed made from Summer hay, and it helps produce delicious tasting beef.
Your taste buds will love every mouthful!
And there are even more ways that we improve our beef...
Aged for tenderness..... beef prepared the old-fashioned way.....
Ageing is an important process, in which natural enzymes in beef break down the tough collagen between muscle cells. The moisture content of the meat also gets reduced, which concentrates the flavour.
Most supermarkets don't age their meat at all before cutting it. They run their cattle through a production system that processes the meat into individual packages without any aging time.
But we want you to have the best beef available anywhere. We dry-age our beef for a full 10 days, under carefully controlled conditions of temperature and humidity.
The result is beef that's delicious and full of flavour.
We process locally..... keeping Victoria sustainable.......
Our beef is processed at a Government-registered Gippsland Abbattoir, and cut and packed at a family owned and Government-registered Gippsland butchery.
Immediately after cutting your meat, it is fresh-frozen. This keeps it safe from bacteria. And because beef freezes so well losing none of its flavour and texture you get the convenience of being able to enjoy it at any time.
So how can you purchase some of our delicious natural beef?
